Final Paper

Wednesday, November 18th, 2009

As you all know the final paper is an extended discussion on any professional organizations’ code of ethics. Here is a list of some professional organizations and their code of ethics.
- ACM: http://www.acm.org/about/code-of-ethics
- IEEE: http://www.ieee.org/portal/pages/iportals/aboutus/ethics/code.html
- ASCE: http://www.asce.org/inside/codeofethics.cfm
- ASME: http://www.engr.uconn.edu/me/pdf/CodeofEthics.pdf
This is not a comprehensive list. Please feel free to explore other organizations.

You can discuss the code of ethics from the organization of your choice. There are several ways to go about this report and you are free to be creative :)

One of the approaches could be to pick a few case studies and justify whether the actions of the individuals involved in the case study were right or wrong based on the code of ethics.

Another could be to discuss in what scenarios each of the code of ethics may fall into shades of gray.

Report format: 5-6 pages including references, 12 pt. Times new roman font, 1.5 spacing, 1in margin from each side.

Is it noble to patent a Nobel winning research?

Thursday, October 8th, 2009

What do you think about this story? http://yalepatents.org/2009/10/07/nobel-chemistry-work-patented-by-yale-and-others/

Should a research that affects so many people that it has won Nobel prize be patented/controlled by a few?
